Blues
Parents, guardians, household helpers, neighbors and older siblings are all suddenly finding themselves thrust into a homeschooling position. Whether your experience is positive or negative you are in good company.
Joseph was home schooled! This, however, did not cause him to be unintelligent. The Bible records in Genesis 41:39 – 41 that Pharaoh set him over all the land of Egypt and called him wise! He became a Prime Minister at the age of 30 in a foreign country!
David was also home schooled! Yet the Bible records in 1 Samuel 17 that he slayed a giant as a young boy! His prowess didn’t stop there. He eventually became the greatest king of Israel!
Jesus was also home schooled! Jesus, our perfect example! Jesus of Nazareth! Luke 2: 46, 47 records that He astonished the doctors at the age of 12 in the temple. Verse 47 says they were astonished at his understanding and answers! In Chapter 8 of the book, The Desire of Ages, Ellen White records an interesting fact. She said, “The Rabbis knew that Jesus had not been instructed in their schools; yet His understanding of the prophecies far exceeded theirs!”
To home school your child is a precious opportunity to impart true education. What is true education? True education provides an atmosphere where a child can develop a walk with God and skills to survive as an individual. True education, Ellen White sums up beautifully, is “the harmonious development of the physical, the mental and the spiritual powers”.
Let us grasp this opportunity with both hands to prepare our children for service in this world and for the higher joy of service in the world to come!
